6. Files or Code Placed on Your Mobile Device or Computer

6.1 We may store files or code (“trackers”) on your device when you visit the Site or use the App. Through these trackers, ExxonMobil accesses data stored on the device (Device Information, User Content and/or User Settings). These trackers help us to provide our services to you, help us to customize your use of the App and the Site, and help us to obtain analytical information about the use of the App and Site, as explained in section 4.

We receive the information collected by the trackers in an aggregated and de-personalized form, meaning that we cannot identify you when we receive the data.

6.2 The trackers that are used when you access our Site (commonly referred to as “cookies”) can be blocked or erased from your device. A “cookie” is a file in which we store certain user information which is re-used when you return to the Site. You can deactivate the cookie function in your internet browser (the ‘help’ screen in your internet browser should tell you how to do this). Note that deactivation of the cookie function may limit the usability of our Site. Read our comprehensive Cookie Statement to find out more about the cookies we place on your computer.

6.3 Some of the trackers that are used when you use our App can be disabled (such as with Flurry Analytics, discussed below); however not all of these trackers can be blocked or erased. Your acceptance of the Terms of Use Agreement and Privacy Statement indicate that you accept that trackers are placed onto your device, and that trackers read your device and transfer information about you and your device to ExxonMobil or to third parties.

6.4 The App and Site contain various third party software components and services; these third party software components and services rely on cookies and/or code installed onto your device to access data stored on your device, which is used by ExxonMobil for statistical and analytical purposes. Below is a description of the most important third party software components and services incorporated within the App and the Site.

This technology will not allow ExxonMobil to personally identify you. All information provided to ExxonMobil by these third parties will be in anonymized and aggregated form.

a) Flurry Analytics. The App incorporates a software application/service called “Flurry Analytics” to help ExxonMobil analyze aggregate App usage trends, for market analysis purposes. The way it works, generally, is that the App provides Flurry with certain information about your use of the App, including Device Information and User Settings, and Flurry analyzes that information in the aggregate to help ExxonMobil provide better products and services to its customers. The information provided to Flurry may be used by Flurry in various ways. So that you understand how Flurry Analytics works, including what information Flurry collects about you and how they use it, make sure to read the Flurry Analytics terms of use: http://www.flurry.com/analytics_tos.html (this is an agreement between Flurry and ExxonMobil; however, it is important to read this agreement, because it addresses you and applies to you, the “end user”). Also, make sure to read Flurry’s privacy policy, found here http://www.flurry.com/privacy-policy.html, which is different from ExxonMobil’s Privacy Statement, so you understand how Flurry may use your data for its own purposes (e.g. to improve its own services) ExxonMobil is not responsible for the use that Flurry may make of your information for its own purposes. Importantly, you should know that you can opt-out of Flurry. To do so, go here: http://www.flurry.com/user-opt-out.html.

b) Apptentive. The App incorporates a software application/service called Apptentive to help ExxonMobil review end user feedback and comments, for the purpose of improving the App. The way it works, generally, is that the App provides Apptentive with certain User Content (feedback provided by you and other end users through the App), and Apptentive provides that information in the aggregate to ExxonMobil to help ExxonMobil provide better products and services to its customers. The information provided to Apptentive may be used by Apptentive in various ways (Apptentive might use your information for its own purposes, e.g. to improve its own services). So that you understand how Apptentive works, including what information Apptentive collects about you and how they use it, make sure to read the Apptentive privacy policy, found here http://www.apptentive.com/privacy/, which is different from ExxonMobil’s Privacy Statement. The only way to opt-out of Apptentive is to refrain from providing feedback via the App.

c) Google Analytics. The App and the Site incorporate a software application/service called “Google Analytics” to help ExxonMobil analyze aggregate App and Site usage trends, for market analysis purposes. The way it works, generally, is that the App or Site provides Google with certain information about your use of the App or Site, including Device Information and User Settings, and Google analyzes that information in the aggregate to help ExxonMobil provide better products and services to its customers. The information provided to Google may be used by Google in various ways. So that you understand how Google Analytics works, including what information Google collects about you and how they use it, make sure to read the Google Analytics terms of service: http://www.google.com/analytics/terms/us.html (this is an agreement between Google and ExxonMobil; however, it is important to read this agreement, because it addresses you and applies to you, the “end user”). Also, make sure to read Google’s privacy policy, found here http://www.google.com/policies/privacy/, which is different from ExxonMobil’s Privacy Statement, so you understand how Google may use your data (Google might use your data for its own purposes, such as to improve its own services). ExxonMobil is not responsible for the use that Google Analytics may make of your information for its own purposes. The only way to opt-out of Google Analytics is to uninstall the App and cease using the Site.

d) Google Maps. The App and the Site incorporate a software application/service called Google Maps API for Business or “Google Maps.” Google Maps can help end users like you locate Exxon, Mobil and Esso service stations using the App or the Site, and may provide other features and services. The way it works, generally, is the App or the Site will send Device Information and User Settings, including information about your location, to Google (including cached data). Google will then be able to display, through the App or the Site, nearby Exxon, Mobil and Esso service stations. Google could use the information we provide through the ExxonMobil App in this manner, and in various other ways (Google might use your data for its own purposes, e.g. to improve its own services). ExxonMobil is not responsible for the use that Google Maps may make of your information for its own purposes. To understand fully how Google may use your information, make sure you read the Google Privacy Policy found here http://www.google.com/policies/privacy/.
